Membership Terms

1. Patrons

The society can elect from time to time persons of great eminence both from and outside the medical profession who can help or has helped the society either financially or in any other way and thus in the propagation of this branch medical professionals. The selection will be done by the Executive Committee of the Organization.

2. Classification of Members:

a) General Members:
General Membership of the society shall be working predominantly in the field of Oculoplasty, Oculo-facial Plastic surgery and/or Ocular Oncology at least 2 years, a fellowship in oculoplastyand or Ocular Oncology or who is interested to build career in the field of oculoplastic services. This membership will be awarded for two year only.

b) Life Membership:
Life membership would be offered to any Ophthalmologist who meets the criteria of General membership and wishes to become life member by donating a specified amount as one time contribution to the society. This amount shall be decided by the executive committee from time to time.

c) Founder Members:
The Founder members of the Foundation shall be persons who were present in the first meeting to form the society and who are signatories to those Memorandums of the Foundation on the Roll of Members of the Foundation maintained for the date of the registration of the Foundation under Society Act XXI of 1860.

d) Honorary Membership:
The society can from time to time elect medical and non-medical persons as honorary members. Such member shall not have voting rights.

3. Register of membership:

A registrar of membership shall be maintained at the registrar office of the society, which shall contain the names, addresses, qualification and date of election to membership. This registrar shall be regularly updated.

4. Admission to membership:

Admission to membership shall be governed by the laws in existence and in accordance to the changes made in the general meeting from time to time.

5. Mode of admission to membership;

Each applicant should apply for membership of the society in writing, in a prescribed proforma. The application should be duly proposed and seconded by two members of the society, except in cases of the foundation members. The applicant should submit all relevant documents as well as two years subscription at the time of filling of application. The application shall then be considered by executive committee, on whose recommendation the membership shall be granted. If any applicant is denied membership, he can always apply to the president of the society in writing if he wants his case to be considered.

6. Subscription:

The subscription will be paid at the current rate which is as follows but the rate may be changed from time to time on the recommendation from the general body.
a). Life Member: 200 USD or Tk. 20,000/- (Twenty Thousand Taka)
b). General Membership (Annual): 100 USD or Tk. 10,000/- (Ten Thousand Taka)
c). For the purpose of subscription and accounting the year should be counted from the 1st of January to 31st of December of a year.

7. Privileges of members:

Each life and Founder member shall enjoy the following privileges
a) Can be a candidate for election of the Executive Committee
b) All members shall Entitled to vote for election of the Executive Committee.
c) All members shall be eligible for attending all general meetings, as well as other
scientific meetings, discussion meetings, seminars etc, organized by the society.
d) All members shall be entitled to use library, reading room and other recreational facilities created by the society for its members.
e) All members shall receive the journal/transaction/bulletin of the society and any other publication of society either free of cost or at such a price which is decided by the executive committee.
8. Obligations of the members:
Each member of the society shall:
a) Practice the specialty within the bounds of medical ethics.
b) Do everything with his utmost power and sincerity to promote the cause of the society. c) Shall take active part in the activities of the society.
d) Shall help the society by participating in educational or research activities if they are requested to do so.
e) Shall inform the office about any change in his/her address, qualification etc, so that the registrar may kept up to date.
f) Shall pay his/her dues regularly within the first three months of the year.

9. Termination of membership:

a) By resignation:
Any member can resign from the membership of the society by a written application address to the general secretary giving 30 days’ notice. The resigning member shall pay all his outstanding dues to the society, and the application then shall be forwarded to the membership committee for necessary action. The opinion of the membership committee would be submitted to the executive committee. The matter would be discussed there and would be accepted if approved by two-third of the EC members present in the meeting.

b) Because of non-payment of dues:
Membership dues should be paid within the first three months of the calendar year. If any member fails to pay his/her subscription by the end of the year, he shall be notified by a registered (acknowledgement due) letter to his most recent available address and would be requested to pay his dues within the next three months. If the dues are not received within this time the EC may terminate the membership of the person concerned.

c) Misconduct:
On grounds of undesirable conduct notified to the general secretary by any member of the society or felt by the executive committee, the matter would be referred to the disciplinary committee. Accordingly, the disciplinary committee will investigate the matter and may ask such member a written explanation within a mentioned period (which will not be longer than two weeks). The disciplinary committee will recommend its opinion to the EC. The EC can decide expulsion of the member by majority of at least 3/4th of the members present in the meeting attended by at least 10 members of the EC.

d) Matters relating to 9(a), (b), (c) should be informed to the next general meeting.

10. Readmission to membership:

Members who have lost their membership under rule 9. (a) or (b) above mentioned may be readmitted as members based on a written application with the payment of 100 USD or Tk. 10,000/- as yearly subscription and payment of any other any other dues against him.
